The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.
The meeting started with issuing certificates to various county employees for service milestones.
Payroll change notices were approved for the Emergency Medical Services department and Sheriff’s office as presented.
A public hearing in regards to the final plat of Venado Run was then held. Samuel Larson with the planning and zoning department says this is for two lots that are zoned A-1 agricultural in Adams Township. The plat was approved as presented.
Peter James was then drawn as the Fox Creek Benefited Water District Trustee based on a random drawing of those who were written in on a ballot November 8th. There were a total of seven people written in, four of which agreed to serve if drawn.
The Board then decided to workshop the discussion on adding media and moving equipment in the 902 Court Street building. It will be talked about again at next week’s meeting.
Design Alliance then gave an update on the 902 Court Street building. Dana Wernimont says the punch list has been made and includes minor changes and improvements. She said they will be able to transition from phase one of the project to the second phase.
Linda Wunch with the Greater Dallas County Development Alliance then shared an annual update with the Board. She shared information on the interest that has been expressed for sites in the area. Wunch says several leads are coming in directly to the Alliance or through board members. Jeremy Voss then stepped forward to share information on efforts that are being done to draw business with the Rural Communities Initiative.
A vehicle purchase request for the environmental health department was then approved. The County will be purchasing a new Ford truck at a cost of $26,780 from Shottenkirk. A 2011 Ford F-250 pickup that was being used by environmental health will be moved to the maintenance department to replace a vehicle that is more than 20 years old and has over 200,000 miles.
Another vehicle purchase for the Sheriff’s office was also discussed but ultimately tabled until the Board reconvened later that afternoon. The Sheriff recommended the purchase of a 2016 Dodge Caravan from at a cost of $21,800 after trade-in.
The Board then voted to elect unopposed incumbents Tom Roth from the City of Bellevue and Dave Hageman from Wineshiek County to the Iowa Communities Assurance Pool Board of Directors.
Future use of the 121 North 9th Street building was then discussed. The County owns the building and Assessor Steve Helm expressed interest in moving his office to that location as the current space he has is not adequate for the large staff he has storage space he needs. The Board took no action on the agenda item.
The Board then briefly discussed budget planning workshop schedules, which will likely take place in mid December. Future usage and rental of space at the north campus was also discussed and will be reviewed again at a future meeting.
The Supervisors reconvened later that afternoon to host a public open house at the newly renovated north human services campus.
