dc conservationThere may not be snow on the ground just yet but living here in Iowa, we know it’s inevitably going to happen soon.

Those looking to take advantage of an on call program offered by the Dallas County Conservation Board are likely anxious for that to happen sooner rather than later.

“Our department has tried the last several years, and we have done some, to do some cross country ski programs.  Actually teach people how to cross country ski.  I’ve done some out in Wyoming and it’s a lot harder than it looks, it takes some practice but it’s a great workout.  There are certain years where we can get some decent snow in, even three to four inches, in November and December to do some (skiing) out there” says Museum Curator Pete Malmberg.

The When it Snows, We Ski program will take place at the Voas Nature area near Minburn.  Boots and skies are available to rent at a cost of $3 per person.  Anyone wanting to participate should sign by by calling 465-3577 to get notified when the conditions are ideal.
