perry schoolsMusicians and vocalists at Perry High School are asking the public to help them help those in need this holiday season.

Choir Director Jenn Nelson says she used to host a food drive during the winter season when she taught at the elementary school and after talking with Band Director Brandon Weeks they decided it would be a good service project for the older students to take part in.

In an effort to get the students more involved, Weeks says they’ve added a little friendly competition.

“We made a really nice, wonderful traveling trophy, you know kind of like when Iowa and Iowa State play for the Cy-Hawk trophy.  Between the band and the choir, which ever group is going to collect the most food is going to get to keep the trophy for the year.  Every year we’ll come back to this concert and do the same thing.”

The concert takes place Monday, December 5th at 7pm in the Perry Performing Arts Center.

Instead of charging an admission, the band and choir ask that anyone attending brings a nonperishable food item with them to donate on behalf of either group.  All donations will go directly to the Perry Food Pantry.
