Greene County and Ogden put on a three-point shooting display in the middle school gym on Monday night in Jefferson with the Rams pulling away in the fourth quarter for a 77-61 non-conference boys’ basketball victory. The action was heard on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The game was the first of the season for both teams and it also marked the Greene County coaching debut for 2002 Jefferson-Scranton graduate Chris Nelson. He saw his team start 1-0 thanks largely to 33 points from senior Trey Tucker and a hot shooting night all the way around. Tucker did not score any points the first nine minutes of the game, but caught fire and finished 14 of 22 from the field with four three-point goals.
Sophomore Trey Hinote also had four three’s for 12 points and Thomas Jacobsen had a career high 16 points and a pair of three pointers. The Rams were 10 of 19 beyond the arc and 30 of 50 overall for 60% shooting. They went seven of 12 from the foul line.
Ogden made eight of 20 three-pointer attempts and 24 of 54 shots overall. The Bulldogs were five for five shooting free throws. Sophomore Ben Heeren had 14 points with 12 by senior Nathan Kennedy and nine each for junior Jade Thompson and sophomore Kayden Kruse.
The Rams turned the ball over 15 times in the first half and finished with 21 for the game. Ogden had 22 turnovers. The game was tied at 33-33 at intermission and the Rams held a 54-50 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Greene County heads to Baxter tonight to face CMB for a girl/boy doubleheader on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
