Playing on back-to-back nights to open the season, the Greene County High School boys’ basketball team has shown plenty of offense. Coach Chris Nelson’s Rams opened on Monday night with a 77-61 non-conference victory over Ogden in Jefferson, then followed that up with Tuesday night’s 94-47 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference win in Baxter vs. CMB. The action was heard on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

Greene County was so good offensively on Tuesday they scored 35 points in the first quarter and had a 66-27 halftime lead. The entire second half was played with the 35-point rule continuous clock and the Rams built the lead to as many as 51 points. All 14 players Coach Nelson had suited for the game saw action.

The Rams shot 72 percent in the opening half and 64% for the game, going 38 for 59. They were nine of 20 on three-point shots and nine of 16 from the foul line with just 10 turnovers. Senior Trey Tucker followed up Monday’s 33 points effort with 23 more on Tuesday night in not nearly as many minutes as the Rams substituted liberally. Junior Wade Adcock had a career best 22 points on Tuesday after missing Monday’s game due to illness. Sophomore Lance Hughes had 16 points, the best of his young varsity career. In all, 10 Rams dented the scoreboard. The points scored were the most in some time for not only a Greene County team, but for the Jefferson-based program.

The Raiders went 19 of 52 from the floor including just three of 22 beyond the arc. CMB was four of 12 shooting free throws and they had 21 turnovers. Sophomore post player Will Clapper had 23 points and freshman Cole Damman added 10. The game was the first of the season for CMB.

Greene County is 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference and visits Alleman Friday night to take on North Polk Friday night on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
