Last night the Panorama wrestling team kicked off a busy night for Panorama athletics with their season opener in Manson.
Last night’s meet was a meet originally scheduled for Thursday at home but was changed around however it did not phase the Panthers took out the brooms for a three team sweep defeating Manson NW Webster, Southeast Valley, and Coon Rapids-Bayard teams.
In their match up against the home town Manson NW Webster team, Panorama earned two victories by fall and had six wins via forfeit to take the overall 48-24 team victory. The match up against Southeast Valley saw a similar outcome with the Panthers earning three victories by fall, two wins by decision, and two victories by forfeit in a 42-28 victory over the Warriors.
In the match up more familiar to Panorama, the Panthers took on Coon Rapids-Bayard high school in a tough and hard fought contest, coming away with a 46-24 team victory. That contest was won on the heels of two wins by fall by Danny Nordquist (1:46) and George Appleseth (2:52), a 14-2 major decision win by Dan Jensen, and five wins by forfeit.
In total the Panthers accumulated 148 team points and at the top of that list were two of Panorama’s returning state qualifiers from last season in George Appelseth and Tyler Van Houten along with Dalton Holmes all earning team best 18 team points on the meet. Not too far behind them included fellow returning state qualifier Gunnar Grunsted along with Kaleb Stogdill both with 15 team points.
A successful opener for Panorama wrestling as they will now set their sights on their first tournament of the season coming up this Saturday as they take to the road in Treynor beginning at 10:00am at Treynor high school.
