The Greene County girls’ basketball team suffered more than one loss in Baxter vs. CMB on Tuesday night. Coach Dean Lyons’ Rams scored 12 points in the first seven minutes, then scored just 12 more the rest of the night in a 40-24 loss. Late in the game another loss took place as leading scorer Laurin Lyons hit her head on the court late in the game and, according to her Dad, head coach Dean Lyons, underwent concussion protocol and won’t be playing when the Rams go to Alleman on Friday night to face North Polk.
Lyons had nine points and senior Kenna Marquardt seven as the Rams fell to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. No other Greene County player had more than two points.
CMB was led by junior Brianda Bane with 14 points and senior Emily Coughenour with 10. The Raiders trailed 12-5 late in the first quarter, but tied the game at 14-14 at the half. CMB made a trio of three-point shots early in the third period to take the lead and never trailed from that point on. The Raiders sank six three-point shots in all while the Rams had none. Greene County went some 12 minutes of playing time from the late first period to the middle of the third without a field goal. After making five first period field goals the Rams had just four the rest of the game.
