Last night marked the first girl/boy double header of the season for both West Central Valley basketball teams. For the girls it was their second contest of the regular season while it was the season opener for the boys squad as both squared off against Woodward-Granger on the road.
In the hunt for their third win in the past four seasons against Woodward-Granger, the Lady Wildcat basketball team found that and their first win on the 2016-2017 season. The Lady Wildcats had a more than solid showing defeating Woodward-Granger by the final tally of 52-43. West Central Valley scored at least 11 points in each of the four quarters last night as their lowest lead of the game was 9 points. Senior Jennifer Dudley went on a scoring rampage erupting for 21 points in the contest shooting 72% from inside the three point arc. She was followed closely by junior Grace Dupuy with a big night consisting of 14 points and ten rebounds.
For the boys squad, what seemed like a win on paper didn’t quite turn out as they would have hoped as they would fall in a one point nail bitter 70-69. It was a very close contest that saw the lead for either team never eclipse 4 points in any one of the four quarters. After finding themselves down two points after the first quarter the Wildcats reversed that role as they ended the first half up 30-28. The second half would seed Woodward-Granger acquire a lead in the fourth quarter after a 48-48 tie in the third to just eek out a win over the Wildcats after the final quarter 70-69.
Next up for both Wildcat squads will be another double header on Friday as they commence with their respective home openers. They will be squaring off against fellow Guthrie County school Panorama in a Guthrie County showdown beginning with the girls game at 6:00 pm followed by the boys contest at 7:30.
