Enrollment increased this year in the Adel DeSoto Minburn Community School District.
Currently, there are 1,798 students in the District, which is up 109 from last year.
Superintendent Greg Dufoe says the current enrollment figure is within just a few students of what a demographer projected four years ago. The District is expecting a new projection analysis yet this year. Dufoe says “growth challenges and opportunities are certainly part of our new-normal.” He says the “very aggressive” tax abatement program in Adel may result in growth faster than their bonding capacity can grow.
However, the increasing enrollment also has its advantages. Dufoe says while some districts are dealing with low settlements or freezes, eliminating programs and reducing staff, ADM is able to keep attracting and retaining quality teachers, sustain and even add programs. Overall, he says the districts financial circumstances are extremely solid.
