Hispanics United for Perry is continuing their Christmas Las Posadas tradition this month.
The celebration takes place Friday, December 16th starting at the First Christian Church.
Organizer Rosa Gonzales explains the event.
“It’s a traditional Latino celebration that takes place in December, pretty much the representation of when Mary and Joseph were asking for a place for baby Jesus to be born. It takes place in Latin America as well as in Spain. There it lasts for nine days but here in town we just do one (night).”
Perry’s celebration starts with an ecumenical church service, followed by a procession and caroling down 2nd Street and ending with dinner at the First United Methodist Church.
There’s no cost to attend but free will donations are being accepted to help support HUP’s scholarship program for Perry High School students. Everyone is encouraged to take part and learn more about the traditional event.
