Last night the West Central Valley boys basketball team embarked on both a conference and Guthrie County showdown against the ACGC Chargers. It was a down to the wire, back and fourth game that saw a lead change at the end of each and every quarter which included overtime as the Wildcats came away with an overtime win 49-45.
The lead constantly changed hands first in favor of the Wildcats at the end of one quarter 14-12 while the second quarter went in favor of the Chargers 9-6 as ACGC took a one point lead into the half. The Wildcats came out of the half strong to end the third quarter up by one 33-32 but it was a surging Charger squad who ended the fourth quarter on a 10-9 run to tie up the score and send the game into overtime. From there the Wildcats would have just enough to accumulate more points ending overtime on a 7-3 run to take the game win.
Leading the way offensively for the Wildcats in a big way was senior Logan Pruitt posting up 20 points shooting 60% from the floor and converting 8 of 11 free throws. Pruitt also led the team in rebounds with 8 total on the night. Following Pruitt was one of West Central Valley’s cross country stars Rylan Heffernan putting up a 16 point performance shooting 40% from the floor.
With the win the Wildcats now improve to an even 2-2 on the young season. Their next match up will be another conference road contest in Madrid taking on a 1-3 Madrid team. The boys game will be the second of a girl/boy double header with the girls game commencing at 6:00 pm followed by the boys contest at 7:30 pm.
