The Greene County boys’ basketball team plays Southeast Valley in Gowrie tonight as the second half of a non-conference doubleheader. Coach Chris Nelson’s team is 4-0 while the Jaguars are 3-0. Both teams are scoring more than 70 points a game. The Rams are at 72 and the Jaguars average 71. The defensive averages are also similar with Greene County allowing just under 50 per contest and SEV is giving up 53.6 a game.
Going back to last season, the Rams have been good on the other teams’ floor, having won eight road games in a row. The string does not include neutral courts. Also, checking the last 10 years, no other Rams team has started with four straight wins to begin a season.
Greene County has been led on the scoreboard by the “Two Treys” in senior Trey Tucker and sophomore Trey Hinote. Tucker has scored 19 or more points in all four games this season, and he had 19, all in the first half in Tuesday’s home court win over Roland-Story. Hinote hit seven three-pointers vs. the Norsemen and scored a career best 27 points in that game.
Both games of tonight’s girl/boy doubleheader in Gowrie will be broadcast on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow. Coverage starts at 5:45 p.m.
