greene-co-supervisors-12_5After two lengthy public hearings, the Greene County Supervisors decided not to reclassify drainage district two.

The Supervisors first discussed the topic this past August when a petition was submitted asking to make a change in how the drainage district should be assessed anytime there is work that needs to be done. Currently, all landowners are assessed in the entire district when a project is done. Engineering firm Bolton & Menk originally presented to split the district into three sub-sections including north, east and south branches for future assessments.

On Monday, another public hearing was held and the Supervisors ultimately voted to not reclassify the district. “We just felt that there was no need to move forward with any reclassification at this time, just leave things as is. We know what the problem is within DD2, so we’ll just do that status quo for now” says Board Vice-Chair Dawn Rudolph.

Work that needs to be done in the district includes removing trees south of the railroad tracks in Grand Junction, installing a pipe in the Sunset Drive area and cleaning out the open ditch. Part of the engineer’s report does include proposals for reclassification, which Rudolph says they can use for future discussions.

“The work that’s been done, as far as the reclassification, that report is good for ten years. So we have something to go on if we decide to pursue this at a later time.”

The Supervisors act as the drainage district trustees for each district in the county.
