Dennis McDonnell always focuses on the team concept, no matter where he has coached.  This year, he is trying to instill the family feeling with the Perry Bluejays.  The Bluejays have new warm up jackets this year and the word family is clearly labeled on the back of each one.

“I just love the team concept,” smiled McDonnell.  “This year, I took the team to both Omaha and Lincoln and we had an opportunity to watch Nebraska and Creighton practice, a behind the scenes type of look.  Afterward, my dad grilled some Omaha steaks and we had a great time.  It was a real neat way for the kids to do a little team bonding.”

The Bluejays are facing an early obstacle after a tough 0-2 start.  Last year’s state tournament team will look to get back on track Friday night when they travel to Carlisle for a 7:30 game with the Cats.  You can listen to the game on KDLS.
