Today coach Ethan Clavert and his West Central Valley Wrestling team are back on the mats on the road at Van Meter high school for a Triangular contest against Van Meter and Panorama high schools.

The Wildcats enter today’s contest with a record sitting at 4-3 which started with a three match sweep against ACGC, East Union, and Nodaway Valley high schools in their season opener. That was followed by the annual Woodward-Granger tournament that was comprised of a very tough field including class 1A preseason 5th ranked Martensdale St. Mary’s and 9th ranked Southeast Warren. In that field the Wildcats came away 1-3 loosing to Southeast Warren, Colfax-Mingo, and Woodward-Granger while defeating Martensdale St. Mary’s.

Now entering today’s two match ups against Panorama and Van Meter, the Wildcats will be seeking some revenge from the losses to both teams at this time last year just loosing out to fellow Guthrie County rival Panorama 39-33 while falling to Van Meter 54-30. Last year West Central Valley walked away from the triangular with 6 total wins by fall, 1 win by 5-3 decision, and 4 wins by forfeit.

The Wildcats will once again be wielding their lone returning state qualifier from last season in Tye Joint who had success in this Triangular last season winning both of his matches by fall, one of three Wildcats to do so.

West Central Valley will first match up against the Panorama Panthers and from there will face off against Van Meter. The Triangular will kick off from Van Meter high school beginning at 6:00 pm.
