As the winter season settles in Iowa, being well informed about what potential winter weather is coming through the state can make you better prepared.

Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf says unlike severe weather in the spring and summer months, winter weather doesn’t usually surprise us. However, Kempf still recommends keeping aware of any winter weather updates.

“Paying attention well ahead with winter weather is a very important thing. They’re going to be letting you know ahead of time that this is happening and people say ‘Oh geez, we’ve been hearing about this winter storm coming for three days now.’ Well if you’ve been about a winter storm coming for three days now, you probably should be paying attention because it’s probably going to be a good one.”

One way to stay weather aware is by following Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team. We bring you live coverage of severe winter storms and we are in contact with emergency and road crews to help keep everyone safe this winter.
