Classes in the Woodward Granger School District are cancelled today due to a mechanical issue.
According to Superintendent Brad Anderson, the main gasket of the primary heat exchanger for the high school ruptured around 4pm Thursday. This also caused damage to control panels for the middle school’s heating system. As of yesterday, classroom temperatures were already down to around 60 degrees. Anderson says the inability to get the issue fixed overnight would have caused “an uncomfortable learning environment” for students today.
Because two of the district’s three buildings were impacted by the rupture, the decision was made to cancel all classes district-wide.
Tonight’s high school basketball games against Van Meter will still be held as scheduled as the gym and commons area operates on a stand alone heating system. Middle school activities for today are cancelled.
Depending on how much they are able to repair over the weekend, the District will decide Sunday evening if classes will resume on Monday.
