The second shotgun hunting season begins tomorrow in Iowa.
Guthrie County Conservation Director Joe Hanner says shotgun hunting season is one of, if not the most popular hunting seasons in the state, which he describes why he thinks the shotgun seasons were set the way they are.
“I think that’s probably one of the reasons the seasons were set way, way back in the day in December was to allow the harvest to be taken in and give the farming community and all the deer hunting community an opportunity to get out. But it’s extremely popular. A lot of groups get together, a lot of families get together. It’s one of the highlights of the season for the hunters in the state of Iowa for sure.”
There still extra deer doe tags available in Guthrie County as well. As of Tuesday, the Department of Natural Resources reports that Guthrie County had 398 left.
The second shotgun season runs from December 10th through the 18th.
