dscn5194A specialized band performed twice in Jefferson Thursday.

Vocal Trash is a world-renowned group that plays with recycled materials as instruments, while spreading their message about a cleaner environment. They performed Thursday afternoon for the fourth through eighth graders at Greene County Schools in the middle school gym. Their message was about anti-bullying and even a few students got to be on stage with the band.dscn5215

Intermediate Principal Maranda VanCleave had an idea to bring the band to Jefferson after seeing them perform this past summer at the Iowa State Fair. It came to fruition after VanCleave collaborated with Brenda Roberts.

“And so we just took a chance and emailed them and said ‘Hey, we’re shifting toward some real-world learning, project-based learning, you guys are basically doing that in action, how can we get that here?’ And they said ‘Yeah, absolutely we can come.’ They’re heading to Cedar Rapids after they’re with us.”
