Last night the West Central Valley wrestling team hit the road and squared off in a triangular at Van Meter high school. The triangular consisted of host Van Meter, West Central Valley, and Panorama schools.

Certainly a tough field for the Wildcats to battle against, and unfortunately for West Central Valley, they would fall in both matches going 0-2 on the night.

In their match up with host Van Meter, the Bulldogs came out of the gate strong against the Wildcats taking wins in weight classes from 106-132 putting West Central Valley in an early hole and would take the overall win 54-22. In all the Wildcats had four wins against the Bulldogs, two victories by fall, one win by forfeit, and one win by major decision. Returning state qualifier Tye Joint headlined that match with a 9-0 major decision win, his first major decision victory of the season. He was followed by Alan Wallace at 170 lbs taking a win by fall in 1:48 and Carsen Scheller at 195 lbs also earning a win by fall at the 2:50 mark. The fourth victory against the Bulldogs came in the form of Cole Sakett’s win by forfeit.

In the Guthrie County showdown for the night, the Wildcats matched up against the Panorama Panthers. It was a much closer contest for West Central Valley, however, the Wildcats would end up falling to the Panthers 29-37. Five wins in all for West Central Valley against Panorama; two wins by way of fall, one by way of 16-1 technical fall, and two by forfeit. The scoring for the Wildcats started at the 126 lb weight class where Louden Foster won by forfeit. It then moved on to junior Tye Joint (138 lbs) who went 2-0 on the night after his 16-1 technical fall win against Panorama’s Noah Kirtley in the 4:00 mark. Joint continues on with just one loss on the season so far.

Following Joint in the win column was Jason Mayland at 160 lbs winning by way off fall in 2:36 followed by Riley Algreen at 182 lbs also by way fall at the 5:20 mark. Rounding out the victories for the Wildcats was 113 lb Quest Brown winning by way of forfeit.

The Wildcats will now have some time off before they become road warriors once again heading to Belle Plaine high school next Tuesday to take on a 5 team tournament field beginning at 6:00 pm.
