December 10th marks the beginning of the second half of shotgun hunting season in Iowa.

Guthrie County Conservation Director Joe Hanner says safety is paramount during these late season hunting dates. Every hunter during shotgun seasons are required to wear at least a blaze orange vest, but Hanner recommends wearing more than that to be even more visible to other hunters.

“All the people out there and a lot of times you’re hunting with good friends, family members and all of that in a group setting where some of the deer hunting groups could have three or four people, up to 10 to 15-plus people. So the more orange the better.”

He also suggests making a plan of where everyone will be in the field and have great communication between everyone in your hunting party.
