The Panorama Panther wrestling team defended their home mats for the first time this season last night as they opened their doors for a four team tournament that included the likes of conference rivals Ogden and ACGC along with Southeast Valley.
The Panthers did more than just defend their home mats, they stood very tall against their competition sweeping the night, coming out with a 3-0 record. In their showdown with Guthrie County Rival ACGC, the Panthers came out strong taking the victory 55-16. Returning state qualifiers 152 lb Tyler Van Houten and 170 lb Gunner Grunsted were two of 5 panther wrestlers to earn wins by forfeit in that match. There were two wins for Panorama that came by way of fall, one win by 6-2 decision by Danny Nordquist and an 11-2 major decision win by Trevor Carey over returning state qualifier Cole Stetzel.
The match up against fellow conference foe Ogden saw Panorama come away with a comfortable 54-12 win. In all the Panthers had 10 victories against Ogden. Three were by forfeit, five by way of fall, and two by decision.
The Panthers only non conference match up came against Southeast Valley and while it was a closer match up the Panthers still came away with a decisive 48-27 victory. That victory came on the heels of 5 wins by fall, two victories by decision with 170 lb Gunner Grunsted’s 4-2 decision win along with 220 lb Brady Howard’s 1-0 decision win.
Overall Panorama defended their home mats very well outscoring their three opponents 157-55. The Panthers will look to take the momentum from last night’s meet into the West Central Activities Conference meet tomorrow inside Woodward-Granger high school beginning at 9:00 pm.
