A reminder to Guthrie Center residents and property owners that changes to the City sidewalk ordinance go into effect next week.
The City Council recently approved the third reading to amend the sidewalk ordinance and change the responsibility of maintenance and repairs to sidewalks on the property owner. The property owner must keep their sidewalks in good repair and free of any cracks, holes or unevenness to prevent any safety hazards.
Failure to do so will result in the property owner being liable if someone were to be injured as a result of lack of repairs.
City Administrator Laura Wolfe says the ordinance will go into effect next week.
