Voters in the Perry School District recently approved a renewal of the Physical Plant and Equipment levy and those funds continue to be put to use.
The School Board approved specifications for a new bus purchase at their last meeting.
As Superintendent Lynn Ubben explains, the District used to lease their vehicles but several years ago chose to start purchasing a new bus each year instead.
“Buses can be $95,000 for one bus. You know, it’s important to keep that fleet up to date because you know, let’s just be honest it’s our most precious resource, we’re hauling kids. So of course we want to have buses that are very safe on the road. So as long as we can do that now. Financially sometime it could be where you couldn’t and then you go back to maybe some leasing.”
The physical plant and equipment levy produces around $329,000 for the district annually.
