Students and staff at Greene County High School rallied around one of their own Thursday in a special event.
Five high school faculty members got their heads shaved as part of a fundraising effort for computer lab and study hall supervisor Charlie Hane. He was paralyzed in a diving accident while in high school, over ten years ago. He drives in a handicapped accessible van, but his current van is needing to be replaced.
“It’s been not wanting to start and the door hasn’t been wanting to open up. So we have malfunction in there that needs to get fixed. Luckily my mom found a place in Roseville, Minnesota that we’re going to go to and hopefully they can figure something out, because they work with my avid system that I use to drive.”
The students first started the fundraiser in November with their No Shave November campaign and raised $1,214. Then physical education teacher Richard Beeler had his legs shaved. Special education teacher Chad Morton then challenged the students that if they doubled that amount before Christmas break, he would get his head shaved. The students pulled through and raised about $1,500. Morton, along with activities director Dean Lansman, social studies teacher Heath Telleen and special needs counselor Kyle Kinne all got their heads shaved on Thursday.
