National Guard ArmoryThe clock is still ticking for whether or not the Greene County School District will decide to continue to use the fairgrounds to store their buses.

Superintendent Tim Christensen says the original deadline date with the Greene County Fair Board was December 1st to notify them if the District was going to continue to use their space to store their buses.

“After the (School) Board’s desire to have the utilities checked out, I did contact the Fair Board and they extended that to January 1st. So January 1st is the date that we have to notify the Fair Board about moving forward with the contract with them.”greene-co-school-board-12_21

The District is interested in purchasing the former National Guard Armory building from the Greene County Supervisors. Christensen mentioned at the December School Board meeting that the boiler system has been running sufficiently for over a week and the water lines are functioning properly. The County recently took care of the final step, which was to inspect the septic tank and it passed.

The purchase price is $250,000 for the School District to take ownership of the property. The Fair Board’s price for the District to rent the fairgrounds is about $17,000 per year.
