The second half of the high school wrestling season for the Greene County Rams begins tomorrow in the middle school gym in Jefferson with a non-conference quadrangular at 5:30 p.m. Coach Mark Sawhill’s squad hosts Belmond-Klemme, Ft. Dodge St. Edmond, and Denison-Schleswig in a meet that wasn’t on the original schedule. It came about after inclement weather Dec. 17 cancelled a number of tournaments around the state, creating an open date on the schedule.

Freshman Will Hansen (126) and sophomore Brock Wuebker (170) are two of the Rams expected to be in the lineup tomorrow. Hansen missed nearly all of his eighth grade season due to a broken wrist, while Wuebker had knee surgery and he missed all of his freshman season.

Hansen talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the differences between middle school and high school wrestling. “The difference between middle school practices and meets is just, crazy!”

The Rams will have a month before the postseason begins with a Class 2A Sectional tournament in Humboldt on Feb. 4 and there’s a lot on the schedule between now and then. Wuebker talked about how he’s preparing. “You just have to stay healthy, and when you get the time in the practice room, just come in 100%, be mentally prepared to get yourself better, get back out there on the mat, and win some matches.”

Tomorrow’s action will be the last at home this season for the varsity. The Rams host a JV tournament in the middle school gym on Jan. 14.
