Lucas Ausberger and Mason Osborne from Greene County swim for Boone under an athletic sharing agreement. Those two and their Boone teammates placed second as a team on Saturday at the Des Moines East Ken Gaeth Invite.

The top finishes from the Greene County pair were a sixth in the 200 yard medley relay from Ausberger, a seven by Ausberger on the 200 freestyle relay, and seven for both as 1/2 of the 400 yard freestyle relay.

East won the team title with 248 points and Boone had 233. Southeast Polk scored 227 with 195 from Indianola, 168 by the combined Council Bluffs AL/TJ team, 147 for Grinnell, and 145 by Cedar Rapids Jefferson.

Boone Coach Chris Mann said Saturday’s meet meant a great step forward for the Toreadors. More than 60% of Boone’s swims were lifetime bests, the coach reports. “We had some tremendous splits and swims that seemed to come from nowhere. But where it is coming from is the hard work over Christmas, and buying into the concept that we can be great.”
