When Greene County plays host to PCM (Monroe) in a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference high school basketball girl/boy doubleheader tomorrow night, the obvious goal for the Rams is to win both games. A secondary goal may be to foul less. In the girl/boy doubleheader loss in Jefferson on Friday night to Gilbert, the Greene County teams put the Tigers at the line — a LOT!

Gilbert won the boys’ game 68-62 in overtime in a contest that took one hour, 45 minutes to play, largely because there were 60 fouls called and 79 free throws attempted. Gilbert went 34 of 49 from the foul line and the Rams were 17 of 30. Greene County had 33 of the fouls called on them with four players fouling out and two others finishing with four fouls. Gilbert lost one player due to five fouls, and that was very late in OT.

The girls’ game had fewer fouls, but the Tigers did go to the line 32 times, making 21, in their 62-42 victory over the Rams. Greene County was just six of 13 from the free throw line in the girls’ game.

The losses drop the Rams to 3-9 in girls’ basketball and 6-4 on the boys’ side. PCM will bring a girls’ record of eight wins and two losses to Jefferson while the Mustangs are 5-3 on the boys’ side.
