dc conservationEven though it’s cold outside that doesn’t mean the recreation and getaway opportunities have to end.

The Dallas County Conservation Board keeps several places open in the winter.

“The museums are open all winter again, remember that, Forest Park is (open) and also the cabins at Sportsman’s (Park) can be rented all winter as well.  So keep those things in mind.”

That’s Museum Curator Pete Malmberg.

Sportsman’s Park in Dawson is open daily from 8am until 5pm.  Camping is allowed as long as conditions allow though the restroom facilities and shower house are closed for the season.

The Voas Nature Area in Minburn and Kuehn Conservation Area near Earlham are open one-half hour before sunrise until 10pm daily.  Hanging Rock in Redfield is open from 8am until 5pm and the Forest Park Museum is open weekdays from 8am until 4:30pm.

As a reminder, if snow has not been cleared or the park roadways are too slick, gates will remain closed.
