dallascountyroadsThe ice storm warning continues for the entire Raccoon Valley Radio listening area.

Dallas County Engineer Al Miller tells Raccoon Valley Radio paved roads in the county are slush and ice covered.  Gravel roads are generally 100% ice covered.  County maintenance crews began treating the roads around 5am but Miller has pulled motor graders off of their routes until later today due to the severity of the surface conditions.  If you do not have to travel today, you’re encouraged to stay home.

The National Weather Service says the strong winter storm will continue to bring periods of freezing rain to the area.  Slightly warmer temperatures are expected this afternoon, especially south of Interstate 80.

The Iowa Department of Transportation reports area highways are partially covered with ice, with bridges and ramps especially slick.

If you do need to travel, please slow down, give yourself extra time to get to your destination and give the road crews plenty of room to work.

Stay tuned to the Raccoon Valley Radio network for all your weather related information.
