With winter comes bad storms and difficult driving conditions.

Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright tells Raccoon Valley Radio the best thing you can do is watch your speed. “In the morning when it’s frosty even if you don’t think it’s icy there could be black ice which is extremely dangerous.”

Arganbright adds that having your flashers on during a snowstorm can help with visibility and encourages drivers to put extra blankets and water in their car for emergency situations.

Additionally, bridges cause problems when there is ice because they are above water it is easy for moisture to get on the surface and freeze. Arganbright says, “Even if the roads aren’t slippery you need to be cautious of black ice on bridges.”

He says the best thing you can do is to make sure you keep your eyes on the road.
