The 45th President of the United States Donald Trump was officially sworn in Friday.
The Sierra Community Theatre in Jefferson showed the live event on the big movie screen for free. Rural Churdan resident Ruth Consier was thankful that the movie theater showed the inauguration because her television was so small.
As for President Trump’s inauguration speech, he talked about transferring power of government from the legislators to the American people. His new slogan is “America First.” He mentioned he wasn’t going to stand by if politicians just talk and don’t act. He also wants to bring back American jobs and make America wealthy again. Cooper resident Chuck Offenburger was also in the audience and he describes his reaction to Trump’s speech.
“I thought the speech frankly was dark. I thought it was angry. It was the most peculiar inaugural address I’ve ever heard from either party. I think it’s because he’s such a non-traditional kind of candidate and now president. He had a much darker view of how America is doing right now than I do. I think the nation’s doing better than he thinks it’s doing obviously.”
Consier thought Trump had good points about being sincere with his remarks, much like he did in his campaign and returning political power to the people.
This was the second time the local non-profit movie theater showed the presidential inauguration live. The last time was in 2013.
