In a rare Monday contest, both ACGC Charger basketball teams hit the hardwood last night welcoming in conference foe Des Moines Christian.
The Lady Chargers were looking to halt the loosing skid but were halted themselves offensively last night falling 55-22. The Charger boys were looking to acquire their third win in four games but big first and third quarters by the Lions forced a Charger defeat 86-46.
In the girls contest ACGC went toe to toe with the Lady Lions ending the first quarter down 10-8. Unfortunately that would be as close as the Lady Chargers would get as they were outscored in the second quarter, 23-4 heading into the intermission down 33-12. A similar outcome followed ACGC into the third as Des Moines Christian took a 16-4 third quarter run into the fourth quarter and despite ACGC holding them to just 6 points, they could not muster enough for the comeback. Morgan Meacham had a solid night notching 10 points and 9 boards to lead the team.
The Charger boys squad has found an offensive rhythm as of late but were not able to fully showcase it last night taking on a tough Des Moines Christian squad winners of four out of their last 6 games and averaging just under 81 points per game in that time. The Lions jumped out to a quick 32-16 lead after one quarter and ended the half up on the Chargers 48-30. The Chargers would be held to just 16 second half points while Des Moines Christian would tack on 38 second half points to earn the 20 point win.
The Lady Chargers now see their record drop to 3-13 with a 2-10 conference mark while the Charger boys drop to 2-13 with a conference mark of 2-10. It’s a quick turnaround for both teams tonight as they welcome in Woodward Academy for a 6:00 pm start for the girls and a 7:30 start for the boys.
