Greene County ExtensionGreene County youth are encouraged to join unique camps with Greene County Extension.

Director Lori Mannel says they received grant funding from Alliant Energy and Decategorization and are offering two Wolf Club camps, Healthy Organized Wellness and Living (HOWL) camp and Programming And Computer Knowledge (PACK) camp.

The HOWL camp consists of five different sessions. The first one is scheduled for February 8th at the Greene County Community Center and participants will be doing yoga. March 8th will be growing your own herb garden at the Extension office. April 12th is on kickboxing at the community center. May 10th is healthy cooking at the Extension office. The last session will be at Springbrook State Park on survival skills on June 3rd. The cost is $5 per session and it is $20 if you participate in all five.

The PACK camp is about robotics. The camp is full with a waiting list.

Mannel explains why they wanted to provide opportunities like the WOLF Club camps for area youth.

“ISU Extension is all about education. We feel that kids need to be exposed to several different things that will maybe spark an interest briefly or maybe it’ll be a lifelong interest. We know that parents, and grandparents and kids themselves are looking for activities to do during Wednesday afternoon’s on early outs.”

Call or stop by the Extension office in Jefferson to sign up by Wednesday.
