The ADM Tiger basketball teams fell short in both games of a conference twin bill on Friday welcoming in the Blue Jays and Jayettes to the ADM gym. The girls contest witnessed a four quarter shoot out accompanied by overtime but the Lady Tigers would falter late loosing 67-62 while defense was the name of the game in the boys contest and it was the Blue Jays to out play the Tigers defeating ADM 51-41.
Diving into the girls contest, the Lady Tigers played arguably their best four quarter game of the season and it started right from the word go. ADM jumped out to a 19-16 run thanks to shooting 7 of 8 from the floor in the first quarter which led to a two point 36-34 lead at the halftime intermission. The Lady Tigers had to rely primarily inside the three point arc especially in the second half in which they missed their first six shots from beyond the arc but did however connect on 8 of 11 field goal attempts to keep a lead at the end of three quarters 56-50. Abbie Hlas was the spark for ADM in the third quarter where she scored 12 of her 23 points on the night. In what was thought to be the final stanza, ADM went rather cold from the floor connecting on just three of eleven shots under the arc while Perry surged ahead to take the fourth quarter on a 10-4 run which led to bonus basketball in overtime tied at 60. There it would be the Jayettes to win it the old fashion way connecting on all seven points from the charity stripe to take the win. Abbie Hlas connected on a single game high 23 points to lead the team followed by Sydney Bertman with 19 points. ADM now drops to 6-11 overall and 4-6 inside the conference while the Jayettes improve to 11-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
While scoring was plentiful in the girls game it came at a premium in the boys contest as defense was the name of the game. ADM had a rough start unable to get many shots off, in fact, just four shots taken the entire first quarter as the Tigers took to the second quarter down 6-15. Great defensive play by both teams led the Tigers and the Blue Jays into the half with a Perry lead 19-10. The stunning part at the half went more along the lines of Perry holding Tajen Ross, class 3A’s leading scorer with 25 points per game, to not a single point through one half of action. The Blue Jays would pack on the scoring to take a 38-24 lead after three quarters. Despite going 8 of 19 in the second half, ADM could not get hot enough for a comeback ending with the 10 point defeat. Kyle Nevitt and Janier Puente teamed up to lead the Blue Jays with 19 and 16 points respectively while the Tigers had just one scorer in double figures as Payton Contrad picked up 12. Cole Knoll picked up another double digit rebounding night with 11 boards for the contest. The Tiger boys falter to 9-6 overall, 6-4 inside conference play while the Blue Jays improve to 6-6 overall, 5-4 in the conference.
