As has been the plan all season, head coach Justin Schmauss and his Tiger wrestling team will be hitting full stride come sectional tournament time tomorrow when they open up the post season at home. There the Tigers will be laying host to class 2A’s sectional 5 tournament comprised of 5 other teams including Harlan, Perry, Kuemper Catholic, Van Meter/Earlham, and rounded out with class 2A’s 4th ranked Atlantic high school. All six teams will be looking to send their own to district play but only the top two place finishers from each weight class will move on to district 7 play on February 11th in Harlan.

ADM is led by sophomore standout Andrew Flora who has paved his way to a mark of 39-5 on the season ranking him 8th at the 106 lb weight class in all of class 2A. Flora is the team leader in team points with 203, wins with 39, and is currently in a three way tie for first in falls with 13. Nolan Harsh falls right behind Flora as the second of two returning state qualifiers from last season. Harsh sits second on the team in total team points with 162 and is also tied with Flora with most falls at 13.

Recent history has fared well for ADM in post season play and while ADM has sprung off of that with a solid regular season this year, just as coach Schmauss told Raccoon Valley Radio, it’s a whole new slate come each post season.

“Everything’s out the window at this point as far as what you’ve accomplished, as far as what your opponents accomplished. All that matters is when you step on the line across from that person that you’re willing to do whatever it takes to try and win and the best man that shows up at that day at that moment is going to get their hand raised. Waiting is winning and moving forward in the tournament and the process of district and state; no matter how you win that’s the main thing just staying alive and staying in the tournament,” explained coach Schmauss.

Wrestling action commences at noon tomorrow in Adel.
