The high school girls’ basketball season ended on Thursday night for the Paton-Churdan Rockets, and the Greene County Rams take to the postseason court tonight.

P-C lost 50-28 in Coon Rapids to Coon Rapids-Bayard in opening round play in Class 1A Region 8. It was the third loss to CR-B this season, all by more than 20 points. Megan Carey had 12 points and Grace Geisler 10 for the Rockets, who made 11 of 41 field goal attempts including two of six three-point shots. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team was four of 11 from the free throw line, as they finished the season with a 2-18 record.

Greene County is 4-17 going into tonight’s Class 3A Region 3 quarterfinal vs. Kuemper Catholic in Carroll at Kuemper High School. Coverage on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com begins at 6:20 p.m. with tip off at 7 o’clock. The Knights are 12-8 overall and average more than 57 points per game. The Rams average 33 points per contest. The winner advances to the semifinal round on Feb. 15 at Pocahontas vs. either Pocahontas Area or Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. The losing team has its season come to an end.
