The Iowa High School Speech Association All-State Large Group Festival is this weekend in Ames.
Four Greene County High School students qualified in radio news and they are senior Courtney Johnson and sophomores Arthur Bardole, Jordan Davis and Morrgan Zmolek. Johnson says their radio program, KILN 105.3 was about Bigfoot and their tag line was “Saswatch”.
Zmolek describes her first reaction when she found out that they qualified for all-state.
“I look at my phone and I have four missed calls from Jordan. So I start panicking and saying, ‘What’s wrong?’ She doesn’t usually call me. I tried to call her back and she doesn’t answer. And then she calls back like two seconds later and starts screaming in my ear and I’m like ‘Jordan, what is it?’ And she’s like ‘We made it to all-state!’ and I just sat on the floor and started screaming.”
Bardole talks about what he’s most excited for this weekend.
“I’m most excited to get our professional pictures done for all-state. I have looked at all of the pictures on the speech wall so many times, just like, I want to be up there too. And we will be up there and look at our pictures on that speech wall. I’m so excited for that.”
The performance will take place in the Scheman Building on the Iowa State University campus on Saturday around 10:12am.
