A Greene County wrestler prepares for his first trip to state in two years.

Senior Hunter Ruth will make his first trip to Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines for the state wrestling tournament since qualifying as a sophomore in 2015. The 220-pounder has a 30-3 record and will face a junior from Central Clinton (DeWitt) Nick Smith who has a 37-7 record.

Ruth qualified for state this past weekend when he won both of his matches at the sectional meet in Webster City.

Ruth’s Class 2A opening matching is slated between 6 to 9pm in session three at Wells Fargo Arena. If Ruth wins, he’ll wrestle tomorrow. If he loses, he’ll have a wrestleback later tonight.
