Each year, every basketball conference will puff up their chests and call themselves one of the better conferences in the state but only a handful will prove that late in the season.

Arguably one of those conferences that has proven itself has been the West Central Activities Conference who had two teams in the final top 15 rankings which started out with three at the beginning of the season. Two of the top teams in the conference, Panorama and Van Meter, recently squared off in the regional championship game and it is Van Meter entering the state tournament this season. The West Central Activities Conference ended the regular season with at least one team in the top ten in class 2A in FG%, 3pt%, and FT%.

Amidst all the conference powerhouses lay the West Central Valley Wildcat girls basketball team who put up a strong showing inside the tough WCAC. The Lady Wildcats ended their season with a 9-14 record which wasn’t indicative of how well they performed inside the conference. West Central Valley earned a 7-9 conference mark and shot well enough for third in the conference at 41% field goal shooting.

All in all, the Lady Wildcats had a solid season in a conference that has made them a better team, as head coach Drew Stonewall told Raccoon Valley Radio.

“I’d say especially this year, we obviously had three really good teams at the top with Van Meter, Panorama, and Des Moines Christian but the rest of the conference I thought was better than it has been and that’s really good for everybody. There were no give away games for sure at any point in the season. I think it’s great for everyone anytime the competition level is great. It just makes everybody better,” stated coach Stonewall.

The Lady Wildcats say goodbye to four senior players from this year’s roster in Kristin Culp, Jennifer Dudley, Emily Franklin, Sadie McFarland.
