Raccoon River Conference foes squared off again as the Perry boys basketball team fell to the Toreadores 64-60 in Boone Thursday night.  Boone came in to the district 3 final winners of 11 straight and already winning two games against the Bluejays on their way to a conference championship, but Perry was the team in the driver’s seat for most of the first half.  Boone struck first and had an early 5-0 lead but Perry was able to come back and grab the lead midway through before ending an action packed 1st quarter 15-12.

Kyle Nevitt and Rashon Ivory led the Bluejays early with 13 of the 15 first quarter points scored by Perry.  Nevitt and Ivory continued their efforts in the second quarter accounting for 22 of the 27 first half points guiding Perry to a 27-23 lead at the half.

The Raccoon River Conference champions owned the third quarter exploding for 19 points while holding Perry to just 7.  Boone was up to a 9 point lead in the final quarter, like Perry was in the second quarter, the Bluejays battled battled back and got the lead down to 2, but never closer. Boone got a clutch 3 point basket and 7 made free throws from their leading scorer on the season Ethan Lewis in crunch time.  Lewis was held in check by the Perry defense, scoreless until the 4th, when he chipped in 10.

Rashon Ivory was explosive throughout the game and every time Perry needed something in the second half he continued to answer the bell including burying a 3 point basket from 5 feet behind the line near the Toreadores logo on the floor in the 4th quarter. Ivory finished with 20 points and Nevitt poured in 17 while leading scorer Janier Puente was held to 9 points as Boone defended the post well against the talented senior.  Perry ends their season with a record of 12-10 falling to Boone for the third time.  Boone improves to 18-5 and moves on to a sub state showdown with Dallas Center Grimes on Monday in Johnston.
