In their inaugural season under the ACGC name, the Charger wrestling team sure made some waves in the wrestling world. Through a injury and illness riddled season, the Chargers still came out with a dual meet record of 10-14 and of the five invitationals they participated in they acquired 5 individual first place finishes.
The team totaled 249 wins compared to just 154 losses. When it came to victories by fall, the Chargers came away with 99 victories and 105 defeats. The Chargers were dominant in the technical fall category notching 14 victories and just five losses while in overtime they were almost unstoppable earning 4 sudden victory wins compared to just one loss. When it came to major decision victories the Chargers were all evened up at 11-11 while earning two more victories than defeats in the wins by decision category.
Despite the wins and the losses on the season for ACGC wrestling, perhaps one of the strongest aspects of the 2016-17 Charger squad has been the team mentality put forth each and every event whether in dual play or invitational play, regular season or postseason. The aspect of team has always been a point of emphasis for ACGC head wrestling coach Shawn Danker who told Raccoon Valley Radio that he was very pleased with the way the Chargers battled as a team all season long.
“The team aspect is very high on my priority list. They battled tough and worked hard all season and improved vastly. I couldn’t have asked more from the team in itself as individuals helping the team any way they possibly could. In that aspect I’m very pleased with everyone’s effort,” explained coach Danker.
