Greene County ended the high school wrestling season at the 2017 State Tournament when senior Hunter Ruth took part in the 220 lbs. weight class in 2A. He went 1-2 and finished in the top 12. Greene County Activities Director Dean Lansman told Raccoon Valley Radio the program took several positive steps this season. “It was a successful season. Last year we were never able to fill more than seven of the 14 weight classes and we did not win a dual meet. This year the numbers were up in the middle teens and we were able to fill all, or nearly, all of the weight classes. That increase in numbers helped us win nine dual meets.”
Lansman said the future looks good. “We think the numbers will continue to increase because we had just two seniors this season and we think six or seven of this years’ eighth graders will be on the team as freshmen next year. We were very young this season on the high school level, so with better numbers and a year of experience under their belt, we look to keep improving.”
The Rams hold the annual potluck supper and awards night tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 6:15 p.m. in the middle school gym in Jefferson. The public is welcome.
