Nearly 250 people attended the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association banquet and trophy auction at Clover Hall in Jefferson.
The event brought in $19,825 from the auction. There were 55 items up for bids, with the highest amount raised being $1,100 from Dunlop Livestock for a semi-load of hay by John McCormick. The traveling business trophy was won by Hamilton Redi-Mix, who purchased five items for $1,850. The evening also included giving away $9,750 in scholarships to 11 recipients in 2016.
President Pat Fields describes what impresses him the most about their annual fundraiser.
“I’d say the turnout and support for the Greene County Cattlemen. We get a lot of people here and they’re very generous and they support us in everything we do. They’re always willing to take their time and open up their checkbooks to support us. We just like to pass that on. Whatever they give us, we like to pass it on to the community.”
Auctioneers John Schaben and Dan Laughtery ran the auction. There was also comments from the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association Communications Director Katie Olthoff.
Proceeds from the event will go back to local projects and activities in the county.
