A group committed to combating the damaging influence of methamphetamine has formed in Bridgewater Iowa.
Organizer Doug Miller started a Facebook page entitled “Take Back Bridgewater, Iowa” after a rockpile was vandalized with the word “meth” pointing towards the community.
“I had to explain what the letters M-E-T-H meant to my 5 year-old son. I shouldn’t have to do that and I knew I had to take action.”
Miller held a community meeting in Bridgewater Tuesday night and was overwhelmed, as more than 70 people came out to support the cause. At the same time the Facebook page has received more than 1000 likes.
Miller hopes the “Take Back Bridgewater, Iowa” initiative can work with local resources to deal with some of the issues plaguing the town.
“This is the town I grew up in. When I was a kid stopping to fast on your bicycle and and squealing the brakes on the sidewalk was something that could get you in a lot of trouble. We are dealing with a whole other set of issues now.”
Miller hopes that anyone interested in the initiative will visit the “Take Back Bridgewater, Iowa” Facebook page for ideas, resources, and to network with others concerned about the community.
