Although this winter has had some unusually warm days sprinkled in here and there, for the most part central Iowa weather during this time can be quite cold.

From snow to freezing cold temperatures and strong winds, even the tail end of winter can bring significant challenges to high school track and field coaches as they start their seasons. For the ACGC boys track and field team, they are no different as they too have to battle the elements early, but what has set them a part from most other schools in the state is their championship style and history. ACGC track and field has enjoyed a lot of success and it all starts with battling the weather and just getting outside, a philosophy that Charger head boys track coach Tyler Mosbach does not plan on deviating from.

“Mostly we just stick to the same philosophy of if we can get outside we’re going to get outside as long as it’s not too bad. Our distance guys are outside almost every single day, they have a little different conditions to work under so they can do that. Our sprinters we’re obviously going to be more careful with the explosion and things like that so if it’s really bad we’ll be inside but we just take it day by day,” explained coach Mosbach.

The Charger boys squad will have some time before they make their way onto the competitive track scene as their first meet won’t come until March 29th. There they will be traveling to Audubon to square off against a 14 team field.
