This Sunday we  turn our clocks ahead by one hour as Daylight Saving Time begins on March 12th.

Jefferson Fire Chief Jack Williams says it’s also the perfect time to check or replace the batteries in smoke detectors, as well as shaking fire extinguishers to make sure the liquid hasn’t solidified. He points out that his department will also send out free smoke detectors to be replaced or installed if your home doesn’t already have some.

“It’s a great service, as long as we have the grant funding continue to do it, we’ll always go out and install free smoke detectors. We average right around 100 per year that we install in residences.”

Daylight Saving Time begins at 2am this Sunday.
