Spring sports are just beginning, but thoughts of the 2017 football season are never far away. Greene County has a new head coach in Mitch Moore, a 2002 Ballard (Huxley) High School graduate. Al Christian is Ballard’s coach and he was there when Coach Moore was a Bomber. The last game of the 2017 regular season has Ballard facing Greene County at Linduska Field in Jefferson and Coach Moore talks about his former coach. “When I was hired I received congratulations from people all over the state and the country, but aside from my wife, my parents, and close family, the neatest text message I got was from Al Christian congratulating me. He said he was rooting for me eight games a year, and I knew exactly what he meant. When I look back on my career 20-30 years from now, that’ll probably be one of the neatest games I’ll have had the opportunity to coach in. He’s had a tremendous impact on my life as a mentor, a Father figure, a guy that I could call my entire life and ask him anything, he’s just been a special leader in my life. That’ll be an exciting game, and it will be for him, too! Likewise, I’ll be rooting for him eight games a year, but certainly not nine (chuckling)!”

Ballard visits the Rams on Oct. 20, 2017. That game and every Greene County football game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
