Tomorrow is the special election to fill a vacancy on the Greene County School Board.

Steve Fisher is going up against Matt Wetrich for the open seat on the seven-person board. Both candidates were asked about the school bond issue that has been voted down twice. Fisher believes that the bond issue needs to be re-evaluated.

“I think we ought to form a committee, not only of people that want to build new schools and pass this bond. But I think we need to bring on board on this committee, people who have been opposed to this bond issue. And find out why they’re opposed to it and see if there’s some consensus and see if we can come together and put together a package of what we need, maybe not what we want, but what we need to move forward as a district.”

Wetrich is in favor of the bond and served on the Pay It Forward committee. He says it’s a tough situation to have to deal with consolidation, especially since it’s happening all over the state.

“I am in favor of it. I think moving forward there’s lots of opinions out there that kind of all need to be heard. I think that’s a really important thing is making sure that folks feel heard, kind of goes back to getting parents involved, feeling heard and feeling a part of the whole system.”

Polls will be open tomorrow from noon to 8pm. The winner of the election will fill the vacancy until the term ends in 2019.
